About Our Communities
Are there any other Jewish senior living facilities in Wisconsin?
As far as we know, we offer the only dedicated Jewish living facilities for seniors in the state.
What makes these facilities Jewish?
You sense yiddishkeit as soon as you walk in. Our uniquely comforting Jewish environment caters to the spiritual needs and cultural preferences of Jewish residents – regardless of their level of observance. All three of our facilities center around Jewish activities and weekly Shabbat services, as well as holiday and life cycle celebrations. All meals served are certified as kosher, while our independent-living residents may enjoy non-kosher foods in their own apartments.
Why do our residents prefer a Jewish facility?
As we mature, we return to our roots and gain comfort from embracing our faith. Our residents also enjoy spending time with friends with common interests and beliefs. In addition, residents can trust the administration to provide the best possible physical, emotional and spiritual care for Jewish residents. Our passion for helping the senior members of our community shows in everything we do.
What if I'm not Jewish?
People of all religions are welcomed at the Jewish Home. Catholic services are held every other Wednesday in our library, and we will do our best to accommodate dietary and other needs as requested. However, you will have to follow the kosher laws with any food that comes from our kitchen.
Besides being Jewish, what makes each facility special?
The Jewish Home and Care Center, Chai Point Senior Living and Sarah Chudnow Community are more than just places to live. They allow residents to live in comfort. With meaning, independence and dignity. Our residents and their families know they are cared for in the best way possible. We provide meaningful programs, activities and daily enrichments to their lives. Person-centered care is at the heart of each location. Our rooms are designed to give comfort and aid in caring, the food is prepared to tempt and fortify. Every aspect, from housekeeping to activities, maintenance to spiritual needs is given the same level of importance, because it is important to our residents.
Why do you have three different facilities?
We provide choices, depending on the type of care required, preferred lifestyle and the desired location. Visit our Communities page to learn more about what makes all three of our outstanding options unique.
How are the facilities rated or evaluated?
All facilities licensed to provide nursing care in Wisconsin are regulated and monitored by the State of Wisconsin Division of Quality Assurance (DQA). The DQA will conduct resident and family interviews and will perform a comprehensive evaluation of our policies, procedures and systems related to patient care.
The Jewish Home and Care Center was named one of the top nursing homes in the country by US News & World Report in its roundup of 5-star skilled nursing facilities around the country. Sarah Chudnow Community was also named to the top listings. According to the site, "All of the homes shown received 5 stars, the highest overall rating, from the federal government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. A facility's overall rating is geared to its performance in health inspections, nurse staffing and medical care."
What kind of financial support can residents expect?
All three residences qualify for Medicare payments. The Jewish Home and Care Center accepts T-19 Medicaid payments and all three participate in Wisconsin’s Family Care support programs. Additionally, our communities are supported by your generous donations through the Jewish Home and Care Center Foundation.
Is there an entrance fee?
No. Unlike many other senior housing communities, we do not require anyone to pay a large entrance fee up front. Other facilities will charge large sums of money just to get in the front door and that does not include your monthly rent! We understand that you worked hard for your nest egg and you shouldn't have to give it up. That is why the only money you will need to put up front is a deposit equal to one month’s rent. Period.
